What is a hostel?
A hostel is basically a hotel with more shared space and a fun and vibrant atmosphere. There is also a kitchen so you can cook meals for yourselves if you choose. Shared space is the fiber for shared stories, shared experiences and new friends.
How far is downtown?
Downtown Salida is about a half mile walk or 10-15 minute walk. We are on the main street that leads downtown, you couldn’t get lost if you tried. If you need to go farther for errands we have a few cruiser bikes available. CYK Bike Rentals is the best place if all our bikes are in use or you need something for more than a few hours.
Can you access the trails from the Salida Hostel?
There is a trail behind the hostel that leads downtown along the river, connecting to the Salida Trail System, or on to the two lakes nearby, Sand Lake about 1/4 mile away, and Franzhurst Lake another mile upriver. And the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route goes right by the front door!
Do you have river access?
Salida Hostel is the original house on a large parcel on the Arkansas River. There are houses between the the hostel and the river, but there is direct access to the river from the hostel. There is a large eddy right there, and it is a great place to tube, kayak, fish, picnic or just hang out.
Are the upstairs rooms quiet?
The four rooms upstairs are separate from the public spaces downstairs and outdoors and are quiet and private. We also have quiet hours after 10:00 PM.
Although we love our furry little friends, we sadly do not allow any pets to spend the night at the Salida Hostel. It is simply too difficult to keep the rooms to our standard of cleanliness while allowing pets to stay. However, there are excellent dog boarders in the area, including Wag-n-Tails — 719.539.9246 and Alpha Dog — 719.539.5481.
Can you tell me more about the bunk-room?
Our bunk-room is co-ed. It has 9 beds (bunk beds) and a fireplace. There are lockers for your smaller valuables and electronics — bring your own padlock or we can loan you one. Only guests in the bunk-room have access to the room. There is a bathroom and shower attached to the room, as well as a second full bath nearby for your use. The room is ADA accessible.
Do you accept walk-ins?
All our bookings come through our website. If you would like to make a same day reservation, you are welcome to book online if there is availability. Our website is always up-to-date. Our staff can also help you here at the Salida Hostel if you come to the hostel between 4:00 and 8:00 PM.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check out is at 11:00 AM and check in is at 4:00 PM. If you need to drop off luggage earlier, call us.
Are children welcome?
We love children, and have traveled with our son to hostels all over the planet. So please, bring your kids to our hostel. Also, please be considerate in your planning for other guests if you have little ones that tend to be loud at night. (Yeah, I was the one with the baby screaming on all the wedding videos, — do learn from my mistakes).
If your children are sleeping in the bed with you, or in a portable crib or bedding that you bring, there is no charge. If you would like a cot or twin mattress for them, or you bring more than two kids with you, there is a charge of $17 to cover our additional housekeeping costs.
Do you have laundry service?
We have one machine and guest are welcome to use it after our housekeeping is done. Payment is by suggested donation and soap is available.
Do you rent out bicycles to get around town?
CKY Salida Bike Rental (run by one of our favorite high school students!) rents cruiser bikes out for around town or longer rides around the valley. They also have a pick up service for break downs. Mountain bike rentals are available at all our great bike shops.
Do you have an area where I can work on my bike?
Yes, and we have some tools you can borrow.
